Ad Patres emerged in 1997 from Chișinău as part of the first wave of Moldovan black metal, a scene still in its formative years and heavily influenced by pagan mysticism, national folklore, and the harshness of Eastern European underground culture. The band’s aesthetic centered on themes of pagan elitism and the revival of “forgotten ideals,” reflecting a fascination with ancestral identity, spiritual isolation, and the rejection of modernity. Their sound followed the raw, cold, and unpolished tradition of late‑90s black metal, marked by tremolo‑driven riffs, harsh vocals, and a primitive, rehearsal‑like production that emphasized atmosphere over precision.

Their sole known release, the 1999 demo Luptele nesfârșite, captured the band’s early vision: raw, militant black metal infused with a sense of ancient struggle and spiritual austerity. The demo circulated through tape‑trading networks and small Eastern European underground channels, gaining attention for its sincerity and its alignment with the pagan‑oriented black metal emerging across Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova at the time. While the band never released a full‑length album, their demo remains a notable artifact of the region’s early black metal development.

Ad Patres shared connections with other Moldovan underground acts, most notably Severegore—linked through vocalist Sever—and Witch Desire, where some members were also active. These cross‑project ties were typical of the Moldovan scene, where limited resources and a small pool of musicians led to overlapping lineups and a tightly interwoven creative community.

The band eventually dissolved quietly, leaving behind little documentation but maintaining a legacy as one of the early Moldovan black metal projects to explore pagan and elitist themes with a raw, uncompromising approach.
