Aethyr emerged from Valencia in 2014, forming part of a new generation of Spanish bands blending folk elements with the intensity of melodic death metal. Their sound combined sharp, Scandinavian‑influenced riffing with atmospheric keyboards and occasional folk textures, creating a style that was both aggressive and melodic, rooted in emotional expression and epic undertones. Although their activity was brief, the band quickly gained attention within the Valencian underground for their musicianship and the experience of their members, many of whom were active in other extreme metal projects.

Their sole full‑length album, Towards the Realm of Nothingness (2015), stands as the band’s defining statement. The record showcased a dynamic interplay between harsh vocals, melodic guitar lines, and layered keyboards, drawing from both European melodic death metal traditions and the atmospheric sensibilities of folk‑inspired metal. The album’s tone balanced melancholy with aggression, offering a polished yet passionate performance that highlighted the band’s potential. Its reception within the Spanish scene was positive, particularly for its strong production and cohesive songwriting.

Aethyr’s lineup featured musicians deeply embedded in the Valencian extreme metal community. Members came from backgrounds in death metal, black metal, and melodic metal, bringing a wide range of influences that shaped the band’s sound. Despite this promising foundation, the project dissolved around 2017, leaving behind a single album and a reputation as a short‑lived but noteworthy presence in the regional scene.
