Allvater was a melodic black/viking metal project from Thuringia, active in the mid‑2000s and created by members of the SKD circle. The band’s name—“Allvater,” an epithet of Odin—reflects their thematic focus on paganism, Nordic myth, and a romanticized vision of ancestral identity. Their sound blended melodic black metal riffing with the heroic, atmospheric elements typical of viking metal, favoring mid‑tempo rhythms, cold melodic lines, and a raw, unpolished production that emphasized underground authenticity.

Their debut full‑length Vater (2007) stands as the project’s central work. The album combined harsh vocals with melodic guitar leads and pagan‑influenced atmospheres, drawing from Scandinavian black metal while maintaining a distinctly German character. The lyrical themes revolved around mythic ancestry, spiritual strength, and the symbolic figure of the Allfather, delivered through a mixture of aggression and solemnity. Although released independently, Vater circulated within underground networks and pagan metal communities, earning the project a modest but dedicated following.

In 2011, Allvater appeared on the split Schwarze Zukunft, which further showcased their melodic sensibilities and their commitment to pagan‑themed black metal. The material on the split leaned toward a darker, more atmospheric direction, with a stronger emphasis on mood and narrative. Despite this evolution, the band’s activity faded shortly afterward, and no official disbandment was ever announced, leaving their status uncertain.

Allvater remains a small but noteworthy presence in the German pagan black metal underground—an obscure project defined by its raw melodic approach, mythological focus, and connection to the SKD collective.
