Apoptosis emerged from Arahal, Andalusia in 2008, delivering a fierce hybrid of melodic black and death metal rooted in themes of demonic possession, exorcism, and spiritual conflict. Though their recorded output is limited, the band carved out a small but notable presence in the Andalusian underground thanks to their raw intensity, sharp riffing, and a thematic focus that leaned heavily into the darker, more ritualistic side of extreme metal.
Their debut demo Exorcismo (2008) introduced a sound built on aggressive guitar work, harsh vocals, and atmospheric touches provided by keyboards—an element that added a sinister, occult‑laden aura to their compositions. The demo’s blend of melody and brutality positioned Apoptosis within the lineage of Spanish bands exploring the intersection of blackened aesthetics and death metal heaviness. That same year, their track “Violencia de gĂ©nero” appeared on the compilation Spain Kills Vol. 02: Death Metal, giving the band wider exposure within the national scene.
After several years of silence, Apoptosis resurfaced with the single Entre Rejas (2014), a track that showcased a more polished production and a clearer melodic direction while retaining the band’s characteristic aggression. The single hinted at potential evolution, but no further releases have been documented, leaving the band’s current status uncertain.
Despite their brief activity, Apoptosis remains a point of interest for collectors and followers of the Andalusian underground, remembered for their thematic boldness and their contribution to the regional black/death metal landscape.
