Azelsglare is a young raw/pagan black metal project from Madrid, founded in 2024 and quickly carving out a place within the Iberian underground through its harsh, unpolished sound and its philosophical‑pagan thematic core. The project embraces the aesthetics of early raw black metal—icy riffs, lo‑fi production, and a feral vocal delivery—while grounding its identity in pagan spirituality, Nietzschean individualism, and a reverence for the natural world. The result is a sound that feels both primitive and ideologically charged, echoing the early 90s while asserting a distinctly modern Iberian voice.
The debut demo When the Purity of Winter Falls (2024) introduced Azelsglare’s sonic foundations: cold, repetitive riffing, raw atmospheres, and a sense of solitary defiance. The demo’s winter‑themed imagery and pagan overtones set the tone for the project’s aesthetic direction. In 2025, the EP Autumn Passes as the Winds Start Their Chant expanded the project’s palette with more dynamic songwriting and a stronger emphasis on naturalistic, seasonal themes—still raw, but more evocative and atmospheric.
That same year, Azelsglare released a split with Whitemoon, further embedding itself within the emerging network of Spanish raw/pagan black metal acts. The split highlighted the project’s evolution: sharper riffs, more confident vocals, and a clearer articulation of its Nietzschean and pagan worldview.
Azelsglare is led by Ephel, who handles guitars and vocals and serves as the project’s creative nucleus. Early contributors Gohr and Kriegsheks participated during the project’s formative months, providing bass, guitars, and drums before departing. Since then, Azelsglare has solidified as a primarily solo endeavor, with Ephel steering its musical and ideological direction.
Despite its recent formation, the project has already established a distinct identity—raw, ascetic, and rooted in a vision of pagan strength and natural purity. With each release, Azelsglare continues to refine its sound while maintaining the harsh, uncompromising spirit that defines raw black metal.
