Brotthogg is a progressive and melodic death/black metal band from Trondheim, formed in 2017 and driven by the vision of Kristian Larsen Moen, who composes all music and performs all instruments. Initially conceived as a side project parallel to his work in Subliritum, Brotthogg became an outlet for material that was faster, sharper, and more direct than what fit his previous band’s framework. The debut EP The Last Traveler (2017) introduced this approach with a blend of technical riffing, melodic black‑metal phrasing, and a strong narrative sense inspired by Dante, misanthropy, and philosophical themes.
The project evolved into a studio collective featuring vocalists Craig Furunes (Chton) and Jonas Moen (Subliritum), with occasional guest contributions such as guitarist Stephen Carlson. Brotthogg’s early full‑lengths—Echoes of the Past (2019) and The Die Is Cast (2020)—refined their hybrid of melodic death metal, black‑metal intensity, and progressive structures, drawing influence from Emperor and Old Man’s Child while maintaining a distinct identity.
With Epicinium (2022), the band expanded its scope into more dramatic, battle‑driven compositions, balancing technical precision with sweeping melodic passages. Their upcoming album Ved veis ende (2025) continues this trajectory, presenting a darker, more atmospheric evolution of their sound. Across all releases, Brotthogg remains fully independent, recognized for its intricate musicianship, conceptual depth, and the unmistakable compositional signature of Moen.
