Cold Without Sun is a symphonic black metal/deathcore project founded in Alicante in 2018, later relocating to Finland in 2021. Conceived as a hybrid between atmospheric extremity and modern core‑driven heaviness, the band blends orchestral arrangements, blackened tremolo riffs, breakdown‑oriented structures, and introspective lyrical themes. Their sound is defined by a contrast between cinematic symphonic layers and abrasive, emotionally charged aggression, reflecting the project’s focus on inner turmoil, psychological darkness, and existential struggle.
The early years of Cold Without Sun were shaped by the vision of multi‑instrumentalist Olbrian, who handled guitars, keyboards, and drums, crafting a sound that merged Scandinavian black metal influences with contemporary deathcore intensity. The project remained studio‑based during its formative period, refining its identity through experimentation with orchestral textures and atmospheric layering.
In 2023, the single Broken Again marked the band’s first official release, introducing a polished production style and a thematic emphasis on emotional collapse and internal conflict. The track showcased the project’s dual nature: sweeping symphonic arrangements intertwined with crushing riffs and a modern extreme‑metal sensibility.
The following year, Prophecies Collide in the Air (2024) expanded the project’s sonic palette with more elaborate orchestration and a heightened sense of dramatic tension. This momentum culminated in the release of their debut full‑length Enslaved and Nameless (2024), a work that solidified Cold Without Sun’s identity. The album combined atmospheric black metal elements with deathcore breakdowns, layered keyboards, and a bleak, introspective lyrical approach. The addition of Maxi Amarillo on bass and vocals brought a new dimension to the sound, adding depth and vocal versatility.
Relocating to Finland in 2021 influenced the project’s evolution, exposing it to a broader extreme‑metal environment and contributing to the colder, more atmospheric tone present in later material. Despite remaining independent, Cold Without Sun has steadily built a presence through its distinctive fusion of genres and emotionally intense compositions.
