Dioivo is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Galician extreme metal, a band that fuses melodic black metal with a strong political and cultural identity rooted in Galician nationalism, anti‑capitalist critique, and a deep connection to the land. Formed in Vigo in 2016 from the ashes of the thrash band Rust in Peace, Dioivo quickly established themselves through a combination of sharp melodic riffing, harsh vocals, and lyrics written entirely in Galician.

Their debut EP Dioivo (2016) and the single Sempre pola Morte Esperas—featured on the compilation Musicando a Rosalía—introduced a band committed to both musical intensity and cultural expression. The early demo O Espertar (2017) further refined their sound, blending Scandinavian‑influenced melodic black metal with a uniquely Galician emotional and political charge.

The breakthrough came with Dioivo II (2019), a full‑length that received strong acclaim for its balance of melody, aggression, and lyrical depth. The album explored themes of national identity, historical memory, and existential struggle, supported by dynamic songwriting and a raw but expressive production. That same year, the band released a split in the Frenopátiko series, expanding their presence in the Iberian underground.

The early 2020s saw a surge of activity: singles like Ferro e Xenreira (2021), Retorno a Tagen Ata (2021), and Hai Sede na Nova Galicia (2022) showcased a band increasingly confident in their fusion of political conviction and melodic black metal. Their 2022 split Dioivo I / Outra Vida É Posible reinforced their collaborative spirit within the Galician scene.

In 2023, Dioivo released Cara os Ceios Incrementes, a full‑length that deepened their atmospheric and melodic approach while maintaining their ideological sharpness. The album was followed by the single Por 100 anos máis and the demo Sesión Demosónico (2024), which captured raw studio performances and hinted at new directions. Their 2025 split Sesión Demosónico / De Mouras e Meigalhos continued their engagement with Galician folklore and underground collaboration.

Their upcoming full‑length Que Soe o Trono (2026) promises to be another major statement—its title (“Let the Throne Sound”) suggests a continuation of their exploration of power, identity, and resistance through a distinctly Galician lens.

Dioivo’s core remains the duo of drummer Daniel Valladares Otero and guitarist‑vocalist Jacobo Mouriño Almeida, both formerly of Rust in Peace. Their chemistry and shared ideological vision have shaped Dioivo into one of Galicia’s most culturally resonant extreme‑metal acts.
