Dødskamp is an instrumental atmospheric black metal project from Monthey, Valais, active since 2019. Entirely composed and performed by Mickael, the project focuses on expansive, emotional soundscapes built through layered guitars, melancholic melodies, and immersive ambience. Without vocals, Dødskamp leans fully into mood and texture, crafting music that feels introspective, windswept, and quietly cathartic.
The debut full‑length Hope (2019) introduced the project’s core identity: raw yet melodic atmospheric black metal shaped by longing, solitude, and a sense of vast internal landscapes. Its instrumental nature gives the album a meditative quality, allowing the listener to project their own emotions into the music’s open spaces.
The upcoming 2025 album Nitescence continues this direction, promising a deeper exploration of shimmering ambience, cold tremolo layers, and the emotional resonance of instrumental black metal. The title suggests a focus on nocturnal light—faint, fragile, and illuminating the darkness from within.
Mickael’s background in Tyrmfar adds a layer of experience from the Swiss melodic black/death scene, but Dødskamp stands apart through its minimalism, introspection, and atmospheric purity.
