Dornenreich is a band from Tyrol, Austria, formed in 1996. They began as a melodic black metal group but have evolved over the years to incorporate folk, acoustic, neofolk and ambient elements into their music, creating a unique and expressive style that defies strict genre classification. Their sound blends intense metal dynamics with melancholic melodies, violins, percussion and poetic German lyrics.
The core of the band has long been frontman Evíga, who handles vocals, guitars, bass and other instruments, alongside Moritz “Gilván” Neuner on drums and Thomas “Ínve” Riesner on violin. Dornenreich have released numerous albums that chart their artistic evolution, starting with Nicht um zu sterben in 1997 and moving through landmark works such as Her von welken Nächten, Hexenwind, Durch den Traum, In Luft geritzt, Flammentriebe, Freiheit and Du wilde Liebe sei in 2021. Their music has been celebrated for its emotional depth, poetic approach and continual reinvention. They have also performed at major music festivals and toured extensively, blending metal and acoustic atmospheres in both electric and intimate live settings.
