Dracunus was a Viking/folk metal band from Madrid active during the 2010s, blending Scandinavian‑inspired epic metal with fantasy‑driven storytelling and a melodic, guitar‑forward sound. Although their activity was limited and documentation sparse, the band carved out a small presence in the Madrid underground through energetic live performances and a thematic focus on dragons, mythic battles, and heroic sagas.
Their only known release, the EP The Flag of the Dragon (2017), captured the essence of their style: galloping riffs, folk‑tinged melodies, and a raw but spirited approach typical of independent Spanish Viking metal. The EP’s title and imagery reflected the band’s fascination with fantasy worlds and warrior mythology, aligning them with the broader European folk/Viking metal tradition.
Dracunus’ lineup centered on a stable trio—Tony, Sutur, and Ordaz—who formed the backbone of the project from its inception. Their chemistry gave the band a consistent identity despite limited recorded output. The departure of guitarist and backing vocalist Javi in 2018 appears to mark the last known activity of the band, after which Dracunus quietly dissolved.
Though short‑lived, Dracunus remains a small but colorful entry in the Spanish folk/Viking metal scene, remembered for their enthusiasm, thematic flair, and the promise shown on their lone EP.
