E‑L‑R is one of Switzerland’s most distinctive atmospheric doom/post‑metal bands, formed in Bern in 2016. Their sound is a hypnotic fusion of slow‑burning doom, ethereal post‑metal textures, and ritualistic repetition—what they themselves have described as “doomgaze.” E‑L‑R’s music unfolds like a fog‑shrouded landscape: heavy yet dreamlike, immersive yet minimalistic, with vocals that drift like distant echoes rather than dominate the foreground.
Their first release, the In Splendour & Sedation demo (2018), introduced their signature approach: long, flowing compositions built on layered guitars, deep bass resonance, and trance‑inducing drum patterns. This foundation blossomed on their debut full‑length Mænad (2019), released through Prophecy Productions. The album was praised for its atmospheric depth and emotional weight, earning an 88% review score and positioning E‑L‑R as a rising force in the European post‑metal scene.
The singles Fleurs of Decay (2021) and Opiate the Sun (2022) further refined their sound, leading into their acclaimed second album Vexier (2022). Vexier expanded their sonic palette with darker tones, thicker ambience, and a more ritualistic sense of progression—cementing their place alongside acts like Darkher, Alcest, and early Amenra within the Prophecy Productions aesthetic.
E‑L‑R also appeared on the label’s 25th anniversary anthology and Prophecy Fest 2021 programme with the track “Glancing Limbs,” marking their integration into the label’s core roster of atmospheric and avant‑garde artists.
Their lineup—I.R., M.K., and S.M.—forms a tightly interwoven trio whose interplay is central to the band’s hypnotic sound. Each member brings experience from other corners of the Swiss underground, but E‑L‑R remains their most immersive and widely recognized project.
