Eisthron was an obscure Swiss black/pagan metal band active in the early 2000s, known primarily for their contribution to the “Schwarztyrannen” sampler released by Umtrunk Records in 2004. Their track, simply titled “Eisthron”, is the only widely documented recording from the project and reflects a raw, frostbitten approach rooted in early pagan black metal aesthetics—primitive riffing, cold atmosphere, and a focus on mythic or ancestral imagery.
Their sole known release, the demo Des Winters eisiger Todestanz (2004), embodies the harsh, lo‑fi sound typical of underground Swiss black metal of that era. The title—“The Icy Death Dance of Winter”—captures the project’s thematic direction: bleak, wintry, and steeped in pagan darkness. While little is known about the band’s lyrical concepts, their style aligns with the frost‑covered, ritualistic edge of early 2000s pagan black metal.
Eisthron’s lineup consisted of three musicians tied to other corners of the Swiss underground:
– Malphas, delivering the raw, martial drumming
– Gothmoth, responsible for the guitar work and also active in Totenheer and Bloody Axes
– Freitod, providing vocals with a background in Totenwinter and Blutmond
The band dissolved quietly, leaving behind only their 2004 demo and their sampler appearance. Today, Eisthron remains a rare and shadowy name in the Swiss pagan black metal scene—one of those fleeting projects whose limited output still circulates among collectors of raw, early‑2000s underground metal.
