Euphrasia is a solitary atmospheric black metal project from Switzerland, active since 2012 and driven entirely by the musician known simply as D. The project embodies the introspective, mist‑shrouded side of atmospheric black metal—minimalistic yet immersive, melancholic yet expansive. Euphrasia’s sound leans toward raw ambience, distant vocals, and hypnotic repetition, creating a sense of isolation and emotional suspension.

Their first release, the self‑titled Demo (2013), introduced Euphrasia’s foundation: lo‑fi textures, drifting melodies, and a focus on mood over aggression. The project soon became part of the international atmospheric underground through two split releases. The Euphrasia / Syrgðr SkĂłgr split (2015) paired the project with another atmospheric entity rooted in sorrowful, nature‑bound black metal. In 2017, Euphrasia returned with the Woeful Silence / Euphrasia split, further refining its ethereal, melancholic approach.

D.’s involvement in other projects—Rue des Cascades and Zwischenwelt—highlights a creative focus on atmospheric, introspective soundscapes across multiple genres. Euphrasia remains the most traditionally black‑metal‑oriented of these endeavors, yet still carries a uniquely fragile, dreamlike quality.

Though quiet and elusive, Euphrasia continues to exist as a steady presence within the Swiss atmospheric black metal underground.
