Not to be confused with the heavy metal band Falcata from Madrid.
Falcata is a long‑evolving Andalusian Melodic Black Metal project whose roots stretch back to the mid‑90s under different names, each incarnation refining the cold, atmospheric identity that would eventually crystallize as Falcata. Emerging from Granada’s underground, the band has always gravitated toward themes of Iberian mysticism, ancestral memory, and the stark emotional landscapes of darkness and winter. Their sound blends melodic black metal riffing with epic undertones, maintaining a raw edge while embracing a distinctly southern Iberian character.
After cycling through earlier forms—first as Dark Drakkar, then Winds of the North, and later Bastul—the project solidified as Falcata in 2009. This first era produced early material and live activity before entering a long hiatus in 2011. The project was revived in 2020 with renewed creative force, immediately releasing a series of singles, an EP, and a full‑length album that reintroduced Falcata to the Spanish black metal landscape.
Their self‑titled album “Falcata” (2020) marked the official rebirth of the project, combining melodic aggression with Iberian historical themes. The EP “Poder ĂŤbero” and singles like “OcĂ©ano” and “Cuentos” expanded this vision, weaving together mythic storytelling and atmospheric black metal.
With “Sagas del Norte: Parte I” (2022) and “Sagas del Norte: Parte II” (2024), Falcata entered a more ambitious conceptual phase. These albums explore northern sagas, ancestral memory, and epic narratives through a melodic black metal lens, showcasing the project’s most mature songwriting to date. The “Sagas” cycle stands as the culmination of decades of evolution across multiple band identities.
