Fenris is a Dutch black/viking metal band from Almkerk, North Brabant, active since 1997 and named after the monstrous wolf Fenrir of Norse mythology. From the beginning they forged a sound that merges thunderous viking metal with scorching black/death metal, shifting between blinding speed, atmospheric passages, and a melodic, dynamic core. Their lyrical world is rooted in Nordic and Germanic mythology, darkness, and ancient ancestral memory, with some texts delivered in their native tongue.

Their early years produced the demo Words of the Ascended (1998) and the debut full‑length Offerings to the Hunger (2001), followed by Ordeal (2005), works that established their aggressive yet mythic identity. After a period of relative quiet, they returned with the expansive …en doodenakkers tot den horizon (2016), released through Snakebite/RockInc Entertainment, further deepening their atmospheric and narrative scope.The band has also appeared on several compilations and issued the live album Live at Heilland in 2023, alongside the split The Nefarious Order (2019).

Across their career, Fenris have shared the stage with Enslaved, Sear Bliss, Rotting Christ, Týr, Einherjer, Skyforger, and others, reinforcing their place within the European viking/black metal lineage. fenris.nl Signed to Zwaertgevegt and still active, they continue to channel the ferocity, mythic darkness, and warrior spirit that have defined their sound for nearly three decades.
