Members

Forgotten Winter are a long‑running symphonic black metal/ambient project from Castelo Branco, active since 2004 and known for weaving cosmic, pagan, and fantastical themes into a sound that shifts between orchestral grandeur and cold atmospheric minimalism. Their evolution spans early pagan‑tinged symphonic black metal into later works shaped by fantasy, metaphysics, and a more cinematic sense of scale. Their latest album, Lucífugo (2024), marks a mature consolidation of their style, blending atmospheric black metal, symphonic elements, and ambient textures into a cohesive, immersive whole.

Origins and evolution

Forgotten Winter began in 2004 with a rawer, more pagan‑oriented symphonic black metal approach. Early demos such as Quest of Ancient Reigns and Memories of Old Ages (2004) and Cold Mysteries and a Black River Lighted by Candles (2006) established their foundation: keyboards, icy riffs, and themes of death, cosmos, and pagan mysticism. Over time, their thematic focus shifted toward fantasy and metaphysical narratives, while their sound grew more atmospheric and refined.

Their early full‑lengths — Dialéctica Transcendental (2009) and Origem da Inexistência (2013) — expanded their orchestral palette, while Vinda (2015) pushed further into atmospheric and ambient territory. serialmetalbums.blogspot.com

The album is available in multiple physical editions, including handcrafted CDs and digipacks produced at Slowdriver Studios, featuring artwork inspired by Salvator Rosa.
