Frijgard was a Swiss pagan black metal band active from 2009 to 2021, first based in Zeiningen (Aargau) and later in Liestal (Basel‑Landschaft). Their sound evolved significantly over the years: early material leaned toward raw pagan black metal with themes of nature, ancient battles, and speculative sci‑fi concepts, while later releases embraced a more melodic, fantasy‑driven direction.

Their debut demo Morgenrot (2009) introduced their atmospheric pagan style, followed by the acclaimed full‑length Nebelwacht (2011), which blended harsh black‑metal riffing with melodic passages and historical themes.

In 2014, Bellum Aeternum Est pushed the band toward a more polished, epic sound and received strong praise (90%). After a period of silence, Frijgard returned in 2019 with three singles—Falling Stars, Aftermath, and Blazing Ark—leading into their most ambitious album, Chapter Zero (2019), a concept‑driven work that earned a 92% review and showcased their shift toward fantasy‑oriented melodic black metal.

The band concluded their journey with Farewell Show – Live in Liestal (2021), marking the end of their 12‑year run.
