Grimm is a Dutch folk‑metal band from Someren, North Brabant, formed in 1996 and known for weaving dark poetry, mythic storytelling, heroics, and witchcraft into a raw, archaic sound rooted in early pagan metal. Emerging from the same fertile underground that produced many of the Netherlands’ most idiosyncratic extreme‑metal acts, Grimm built its identity on a blend of primitive aggression, folkloric atmosphere, and theatrical, old‑world melodies. Their early demos and live recordings, including Beukhok Demo (1998), Lasterkwaad (2000), and Promo 2000, captured a band steeped in rustic darkness and medieval sensibilities, eventually culminating in the full‑length albums Dark Medieval Folklore (2006) and Heksenkringen (2007), both released through Displeased Records. These works solidified their reputation for evocative, ritualistic compositions and lyrics steeped in Dutch mythic tradition, with tracks like “Verbranding van een Heks” becoming emblematic of their witchcraft‑driven aesthetic.

After disbanding in 2013, Grimm returned in 2020 with founding member Johnny Hällström once again at the helm, joined by drummer Havoque and later bassist Jörgen Gubbjävel. This revived lineup reconnected with the band’s original spirit—raw, folkloric, and steeped in ancestral mysticism—while introducing a sharpened sense of musicianship. Their comeback single Klughtspel der Duyvelsbanders (2021) reaffirmed their place within the Dutch pagan and folk‑metal lineage. Across decades, Grimm has remained a cult presence: fiercely regional, defiantly archaic, and committed to a vision where myth, darkness, and folk tradition converge into a uniquely Dutch expression of pagan metal.
