Heidevolk is a folk/viking metal band from Arnhem, Gelderland, formed in 2002 and known for shaping a distinctly Dutch expression of pagan and historical metal. Their music is defined by dual clean male vocals, folk‑driven melodies, and lyrics rooted in the history and culture of Gelderland as well as Germanic mythology, a thematic focus consistently highlighted in their official biography. From their earliest years—originally under the name Hymir—they built a reputation for powerful, melodic storytelling delivered with anthemic clarity and an unmistakable regional identity. Their songs, often performed in Dutch, bridge the sacred and the earthly, celebrating both mythic narratives and everyday revelry.

Over two decades, Heidevolk have become a prominent presence on European and international stages, recognized for energetic performances and an uncompromising approach to folk metal. Their discography traces a steady evolution from De strijdlust is geboren (2005) through landmark releases such as Walhalla wacht (2008), Uit oude grond (2010), Batavi (2012), Velua (2015), Vuur van verzet (2018), and Wederkeer (2023). Throughout these albums, the band has maintained a strong folkloric core while expanding their sonic palette and narrative depth. Although no original members remain as of 2022, the group continues under the banner of Napalm Records with a lineup that carries forward the band’s established sound and ethos, reaffirming their stance as a non‑political act dedicated solely to cultural and mythological themes

Heidevolk’s enduring appeal lies in their ability to merge historical reverence with modern metal force, creating music that resonates across language barriers and cultural boundaries. Their blend of epic choruses, driving riffs, and regional storytelling has secured their place as one of the Netherlands’ most recognizable folk‑metal exports, celebrated for both their studio work and their commanding live presence.
