Heresiarch Seminary was an atmospheric black metal band from Moscow, active during the late 2000s and early 2010s. The project embodied the raw, pagan‑tinged, frostbitten aesthetic that defined much of Russia’s underground black metal at the time. Their music blended cold melodic tremolo lines, ritualistic atmospheres, and a strong sense of occult mysticism—rooted in themes of darkness, winter, and pre‑Christian spiritual traditions.

The band’s early years (2008–2011) were marked by a rotating lineup and a raw, aggressive sound. Their debut full‑length Dark Ages of Witchery (2010) established their identity: primitive yet atmospheric black metal steeped in pagan imagery and nocturnal moods. The EP Spill the Cursed Wine (2012) refined this formula with sharper production and a more ritualistic tone.

In 2013, Heresiarch Seminary released two significant works:

By early 2014, the band underwent a major identity shift. The name was first changed to Pagan Sanctuary, but this transition was short‑lived. Within the same year, the members decided on a more definitive transformation, adopting the name Drunemeton, under which the project continues today. This new identity aligned more closely with their pagan, ritualistic direction and marked the end of the Heresiarch Seminary era.

Despite their relatively small discography, Heresiarch Seminary left a distinct mark on the Russian atmospheric black metal underground—raw, occult, frost‑covered, and deeply rooted in pagan mysticism.
