Hordak

Hordak is a long‑running pagan metal project from Madrid, formed in 2002 and centered on a concept the band defines as “Celtiberian Pagan Metal.” Their name—borrowed from the villain in Masters of the Universe—was chosen for its connection to childhood imagination and the ideals of rebellion, myth, and identity that later shaped the band’s artistic vision.

Musically, Hordak blends pagan black metal, folk elements, and ambient textures, creating an atmosphere rooted in Celtic paganism and Celtiberian history. Their work often evokes ancient Iberian landscapes, tribal memory, and the spiritual world of pre‑Roman Hispania. Over the years, the band has developed a distinctive sound built around melodic tremolo riffs, acoustic passages, traditional instruments, and a strong sense of cultural storytelling.

Their early demo in 2003 led to a series of full‑length albums that gradually expanded their thematic and musical scope. “War Has Just Begun” (2005) and “The Last European Wolves” (2006) established their identity within the European pagan metal scene, while “Under the Sign of the Wilderness” (2011) and “Padre” (2016) deepened their atmospheric and spiritual dimension. The 2022 album “Los gigantes del bosque” stands as their last known release, a mature and immersive work that continues their exploration of mythic Iberia.

Hordak’s history is marked by numerous lineup changes, with Autumn War and Winter War serving as the core creative forces for most of the band’s existence. Their music has appeared on several international compilations dedicated to pagan, folk, and underground metal, further cementing their cult status.
