Hvit Ulv is an atmospheric black metal project from Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast, founded and entirely driven by the prolific multi‑instrumentalist W.W. (Sergey Andrievskih), a figure deeply embedded in the Ural black metal underground. From its inception in 2017, the project has focused on evoking the mysticism, solitude, and natural majesty of the Ural region, blending raw black metal foundations with expansive ambient passages and a strong sense of place. The music is characterized by cold, melodic tremolo lines, forest‑shrouded atmospheres, and a contemplative, almost ritualistic pacing that aligns Hvit Ulv with the more nature‑oriented branch of Russian atmospheric black metal.

The project’s first appearance came with the 2018 split С ветром, что сплетён из мистерий Урала, a collaboration with several other Ural‑based acts, establishing Hvit Ulv’s thematic identity rooted in regional mysticism. The debut full‑length Мистерии леса (2019), released through Scars of Eternity Records, remains the project’s central work. The album received positive underground reception for its immersive forest ambience, melancholic melodic phrasing, and the balance between rawness and atmospheric clarity. Reviewers highlighted its ability to conjure vivid natural landscapes without sacrificing the harsher edge of black metal.

In 2020, Hvit Ulv contributed to two additional splits—The Whisper of a Bygone Time and Blade of Painful Memories—further expanding the project’s sonic palette and reinforcing W.W.’s reputation as one of the most active and versatile musicians in the regional scene. His involvement in numerous other projects across black metal, ambient, industrial, and experimental styles has shaped Hvit Ulv’s sound into something both deeply personal and stylistically interconnected with the broader Ural underground.

Hvit Ulv continues to operate as a solitary, introspective project, maintaining a consistent aesthetic centered on nature, memory, and the spiritual resonance of the forested Ural landscape.
