Infektor arose in 1989 in Arucas, Canary Islands, during the formative years of the Spanish thrash underground. Their earliest incarnation fused raw, aggressive thrash with touches of Canarian folk instrumentation and rhythmic patterns, a hybrid that set them apart from mainland contemporaries. The band’s first demos, Only Dead (1989) and Worm Epidemic (1990), captured a primitive but energetic sound—fast riffing, sharp vocal delivery, and a socially conscious lyrical approach that would remain a constant throughout their evolution.
After a brief hiatus, Infektor re‑formed in 1992 with a renewed focus on pure thrash metal. The 1990s lineup shifts brought a heavier, more technically grounded direction, culminating in the 1999 demo that marked the transition toward their modern identity. Their first full‑length, Ahuar Maiek (2002), remains one of the most distinctive releases in their catalogue: a conceptually rich album that blended thrash aggression with indigenous Canarian themes, percussive elements, and occasional folk instrumentation. It earned them recognition in Spanish zines for its originality and cultural depth.
With Falsa realidad (2007), the band sharpened their sound into a more contemporary thrash framework—tighter production, politically charged lyrics, and a more direct attack. This period saw Infektor included in compilations such as Spain Kills (2008), which helped expose them to a broader national audience. Their 2014 album El cuarto mundo expanded on their socially critical stance, addressing corruption, inequality, and global disillusionment through a darker, more mature thrash aesthetic.
Despite numerous lineup changes—none of the founding members remain—Infektor has maintained a consistent presence in the Canary Islands metal scene, known for their intense live performances and commitment to independent production. Their upcoming album Ignominia (2025) is anticipated as a culmination of decades of persistence, channeling their trademark blend of speed, critique, and insular identity into a modern thrash statement.
Their long career, marked by resilience and constant reinvention, positions Infektor as one of the most enduring thrash acts from the Canary Islands, carrying forward a legacy rooted in both local culture and global metal tradition.
