Iskald took form in northern Norway in 2005, first in Sortland and later in Bodø, shaping a melodic black/thrash metal sound defined by cold atmospheres, sharp riffing, and a thematic focus on judgment, apocalypse, and Norse myth. Their name—meaning “ice‑cold”—captures both the tone and the geographic spirit of the project: a blend of northern ferocity and melodic clarity rooted in the stark landscapes of Nordland. Early releases such as the Demo (2005) and the Northern Twilight EP (2006) laid the foundation for a style that merged black‑metal intensity with thrash‑driven energy, quickly leading to their debut full‑length Shades of Misery the same year.

With Revelations of Reckoning Day (2008), Iskald expanded their sound into a more dramatic and apocalyptic direction, refining their melodic sensibilities while maintaining a harsh, frostbitten edge. Subsequent albums—including The Sun I Carried Alone (2011) and Nedom og nord (2014)—deepened their identity, balancing aggression with atmosphere and exploring themes of inner struggle, northern mysticism, and cosmic judgment. Their 2018 album Innhøstinga marked another evolution, presenting a darker, more mature expression supported by singles that highlighted the band’s sharpened songwriting and emotional weight. Active for nearly two decades and now aligned with Dusktone, Iskald remain a steadfast presence in Norwegian extreme metal, carrying forward a sound that is both melodic and unforgiving, shaped by the cold northern world from which it was born.

The name "Iskald" translates to "ice-cold" in English.
