Kalendae was a short‑lived atmospheric black metal project from Saint Petersburg, active in the early 2010s and centered around the musician Vsevolod Krassa. Although the project produced only two official releases, it left a distinct mark within the Russian atmospheric underground through its melancholic tone, minimalist structure, and introspective approach.

The self‑titled demo Kalendae (2012) introduced the project’s aesthetic: raw yet melodic atmospheric black metal built on repetitive tremolo lines, distant vocals, and a cold, meditative atmosphere. The demo circulated quietly within niche circles, appreciated for its sincerity and its ability to evoke a sense of fading memory and seasonal decay. Its sound aligned with the early 2010s wave of Russian atmospheric black metal—lo‑fi, emotionally restrained, and rooted in solitude.

In 2016, Kalendae released the EP Finis, which became the project’s defining work. Compared to the demo, Finis displayed a more refined production and a clearer compositional direction. The EP leaned heavily into melancholic ambience, slow‑burning melodic development, and a sense of closure befitting its title. Listeners noted its somber, almost funereal tone, suggesting a project reaching its natural endpoint. After Finis, Kalendae fell silent, with no further activity or announcements, effectively marking the end of the project.

Vsevolod Krassa later became involved in other projects such as Styrioth and Κένωσις, continuing to explore atmospheric and introspective musical territories. Kalendae remains a small but evocative entry in the Russian atmospheric black metal landscape—brief, understated, and remembered for its quiet emotional weight.
