Liveride was a short‑lived but evocative atmospheric black metal/ambient project from Saint Petersburg, active between 2010 and 2013. Entirely driven by Roman Barinov, the project carved out a quiet niche in the Russian atmospheric underground through its nature‑focused, dreamlike soundscapes and its prolific early output.
Liveride’s music leaned heavily toward the softer, more introspective side of atmospheric black metal—long, drifting tremolo lines, gentle ambient layers, and a strong emphasis on mood over aggression. The project’s releases often evoke mist‑covered forests, Siberian expanses, and nocturnal solitude, aligning it with the nature‑oriented branch of Russian atmospheric black metal that flourished in the early 2010s.
The year 2010 marked an intense burst of creativity, with three EPs—Таинством лесов, Туманами, and Грёзами ночи, печалью дней—each exploring different shades of melancholy and natural mysticism. These early works established Liveride’s signature aesthetic: raw yet serene, atmospheric yet grounded in a sense of wandering through vast, lonely landscapes.
In 2011, the project released its first full‑length, Сквозь Сибирь (“Through Siberia”), a more expansive and cohesive journey through frozen terrains and introspective moods. The album remains Liveride’s most recognized work, appreciated for its immersive atmosphere and its ability to conjure a sense of endless travel across the Russian wilderness.
Two singles followed—Млечный путь (2011) and Кокон (2012)—before the project concluded with its final full‑length, Старый месяц (2013). This last album carried a more nostalgic, twilight‑tinged tone, as if closing the project’s cycle with a quiet farewell.
After 2013, Liveride dissolved without formal announcement. Roman Barinov later became involved in other atmospheric and post‑black‑leaning projects such as Ель Ветра and Crane’s Dreams, continuing his exploration of nature‑bound, introspective sound.
