Mirror, founded in Almendralejo (Extremadura) in 1998, is one of the most unusually prolific and stylistically fluid underground metal projects in Spain. Their sound moves freely between doom, death, gothic metal, and folk influences, often blending melancholic atmospheres with raw, lo‑fi aggression and experimental structures. Mirror’s discography is enormous—spanning demos, EPs, full‑lengths, and conceptual works—reflecting a project that treats creation as a continuous, restless process rather than a polished, industry‑driven endeavor.

The band’s early period culminated in a remarkable burst of activity in 2004, releasing multiple full‑length albums (Afternoon, Light Abduction, Phormation of the Obscure Materia, Bird’s Conspiracy, Wolves of Conscience) and EPs (Idola, Il Misantropo). These works established Mirror’s signature: a blend of doom‑laden melancholy, gothic textures, and death‑metal grit, often wrapped in an experimental, almost avant‑garde sensibility.

Their 2008 trilogy—The Ancient, We Are Nature, and Solstice/Equinox—expanded their thematic and atmospheric range, incorporating folk elements and a more introspective tone. Later releases such as Flowers of Doom (2013), A Forlorn Path to Joy (2014), and Lost & Found (2014) continued to explore sorrowful, atmospheric territory, while Hail to the Cult (2014) leaned into a more aggressive, ritualistic edge.

From 2017 onward, Mirror entered a new phase marked by raw demos (Path to the Dark, Gazing at the Ruins, Cursed Dawn, Faith) and more focused full‑lengths (Mirror, The Key & the Gate). These works show a band comfortable with lo‑fi aesthetics, emotional bleakness, and a DIY ethos that prioritizes expression over production gloss.

Recent EPs like Sketches (2019), Harvester of Covers (2024), Harvest (2024), and The Next Step (2025) demonstrate that Mirror remains active, exploratory, and unbound by genre conventions. Their upcoming EP Life Is Spoils of Death (2026) suggests a continuation of their existential, doom‑soaked vision.

At the center of this vast output is Guadaña Afilada, the band’s founder and sole constant member. His involvement in numerous other underground projects (Antropocidal, Black Cloak, Churchless, God Dog, Nethergod, and many more) underscores his role as a prolific creative force within the Extremaduran metal scene. Mirror is his most expansive and enduring vessel—an ever‑evolving archive of moods, experiments, and dark reflections.
