Mutilated Minds is a solitary depressive black metal and post‑rock project founded in 2021 in Castelo Branco, Portugal, by multi‑instrumentalist Dinis Silva, who has remained its sole creative force since inception. The project was born from an inward, introspective impulse, shaping a sound that merges the fragility and melodic openness of post‑rock with the bleak emotional gravity of depressive black metal. Its music gravitates toward themes of isolation, emotional erosion, and existential fatigue, expressed through minimalistic structures, distant screams, and guitar lines that drift between melancholy and catharsis.
From the beginning, Mutilated Minds has operated independently, releasing material that reflects a raw, personal, and unfiltered creative process. The debut EP “Lifeless” (2022) introduced the project’s aesthetic: sparse arrangements, mournful melodies, and a lo‑fi atmosphere that emphasizes emotional immediacy over technical polish. The follow‑up EP “Isolation” (2023) deepened this approach, leaning further into post‑rock textures and slow‑burning crescendos while retaining the depressive black metal core, resulting in a more immersive and introspective work.
Beyond its standalone releases, Mutilated Minds contributed the tracks “The Futile Truth That Life Is” and “Forgive Me” to the 2023 multi‑artist split Elegies of Tortured Souls (Dark Ghost Records), appearing alongside several international depressive black metal acts. These contributions helped position the project within a broader underground network while maintaining its fundamentally solitary identity.
Despite its young discography, Mutilated Minds has already established a distinct voice within the Portuguese depressive black metal landscape, defined by emotional starkness, melodic restraint, and a commitment to personal expression over scene conventions.
