NoÄŤ is one of the most unusual and genre‑fluid projects to emerge from the Slovenian underground. Founded in 2015 in Kranj, the project began as a raw, depressive black metal outlet—minimalist, lo‑fi, and emotionally unfiltered. The name means “night” in Slovene, and the early material embodies exactly that: solitary, suffocating darkness rendered through repetitive riffs, distant screams, and a sense of internal collapse.
Between 2015 and 2018, Noč released an astonishing run of demos—twelve in total—each one a snapshot of a shifting emotional landscape. The early demos (I–III) are firmly rooted in DSBM traditions: raw guitars, buried vocals, and a claustrophobic atmosphere. But after Demo III, the project began mutating. Cloud rap textures, ambient pads, and trap‑influenced rhythms slowly seeped into the sound, creating a hybrid aesthetic that feels both deeply personal and defiantly experimental.
By the mid‑2010s, NoÄŤ had become a cult curiosity within the micro‑scenes of depressive black metal and internet‑born cloud rap. The project’s contributions to the Denktimes compilations—“The Struggle Itself Towards the Heights” (2017) and “The Curse of the Normies” (2018)—captured this transitional phase: bleak, introspective, but increasingly atmospheric and genre‑fluid.
After a period of silence, NoÄŤ resurfaced in 2021 with the singles Merging Streams and Don’t Stare into the Portal, both of which leaned heavily into ambient and cloud‑rap‑infused black metal. These tracks showcased a matured, more deliberate approach: shimmering synths, whispered vocals, and a dreamlike melancholy that blurred the boundaries between genres.
NoÄŤ remains a one‑person project, driven entirely by J.B., a musician also active in Kamra, Siderean, and formerly Teleport. His background in avant‑garde and progressive extreme metal informs NoÄŤ’s evolution, giving the project a unique position at the crossroads of depressive black metal, ambient soundscapes, and internet‑era emotional expression.
