Valkiria’s 2018 offshoot—created solely by Valkus Valkiria—is a one‑man project born as an intimate return to origins, a spiritual and emotional excavation of the Lucanian land. Conceived in November 2018, this incarnation of Valkiria differs from the main project’s epic gothic trajectory, embracing instead a rawer, more atmospheric black metal approach infused with ambient textures, ritualistic pacing, and deep personal symbolism. The music is shaped entirely by Valkus, who performs all instruments and vocals, recording and producing everything at Valkiria Studio.
The debut album To the Lucanian Forest (2018) is described by Valkus as a “mystical travel into my past,” a sonic pilgrimage through the forests of memory and the formative years of his artistic life. Each track is tied to a band from his early history—Black Sunrise, Obscure Devotion, Valkiria, Warnungstraum, Ecnephias—reflecting the experiences, transitions, and creative tensions that shaped his evolution. The album functions as both homage and catharsis, revisiting the emotional landscapes of the mid‑90s Lucanian underground while transforming them into something new, atmospheric, and deeply personal.
With To the Lucanian Wolves (2020, remixed 2023), Valkus continues this introspective journey, expanding the concept of “Lucanian sensations.” The album resumes the path left open by the debut, incorporating reimagined echoes of the bands that marked his early years. “Foresta nuova,” originally intended for the first album, becomes the spiritual keystone of this second chapter. Tracks like “Selva” and “Green Kingdom” reinterpret the essence of Black Sunrise and Obscure Devotion through Valkus’s own atmospheric lens, merging nostalgia with transformation. The result is a work that feels both ancient and renewed, rooted in personal history yet projected into a mythic, timeless dimension.
Across both releases, the project stands as a solitary rite of remembrance and reinvention—an exploration of identity, land, and memory through the language of atmospheric black metal.
