Planetshine is an atmospheric black metal/ambient project from Yekaterinburg, founded in 2015 and entirely driven by Sergey Andrievskikh, one of the most prolific and stylistically fluid musicians in the Russian underground. The project’s identity is rooted in cosmic vastness—interstellar ambience, drifting melodic structures, and black metal intensity shaped into a kind of astral journey. Planetshine’s music is less about aggression and more about immersion: the cold silence of space, the loneliness of cosmic travel, and the awe of the unknown.
From the beginning, Planetshine has been remarkably productive. The debut EP Through the Corridors of Darkness Beyond the Event Horizon (2015) immediately established the project’s core aesthetic: atmospheric black metal wrapped in cosmic ambience, with long, drifting passages that evoke the sensation of moving through star‑lit voids. This was followed by the full‑length Way to Nowhere (2017), a more expansive and emotionally resonant release that blended melancholic melodies with a sense of cosmic isolation.
The project’s breakthrough came with A Journey into the Unknown (2019), a record that fully embraced the “cosmic black metal” identity—vast, shimmering, and contemplative. In 2020, Planetshine entered an extraordinarily prolific phase, releasing multiple works that explored different facets of its sound:
These releases expanded the project’s sonic universe: colder, more atmospheric, more introspective. The music became a blend of cosmic ambient, atmospheric black metal, and melancholic post‑black textures—always centered on the theme of space as both physical and psychological frontier.
After a brief pause, Planetshine returned with Among the Stars (2024), a mature and refined work that deepened the project’s cosmic identity. The upcoming A Ten‑Year Space Expedition (2025) marks a symbolic milestone: a decade of solitary exploration through sound, space, and emotional distance.
Sergey Andrievskikh’s involvement in numerous other projects—Aurum Solis, Hvit Ulv, KvltovHate, Portal of Desire, Sacrificia, Without Dreams, Мать‑Тьма, Промозглость, and many more—reveals the breadth of his creative world. Planetshine stands among his most atmospheric and conceptually unified works: a long‑form meditation on the cosmos, the unknown, and the cold beauty of infinite space.
