Porosl (Поросль), meaning “sprout,” “new growth,” or “young shoots” in Russian, is an atmospheric/post‑black metal project from Perm founded in 2019 by brothers Alexander and Alexey Osipov. The name is fitting: the project’s sound feels like something emerging from the soil—organic, melancholic, and quietly expansive. Porosl blends shimmering post‑black textures with atmospheric black metal’s emotional weight, creating music that feels rooted in nature yet shaped by introspective, human fragility.

The project debuted with the full‑length Sober Life (2019), a record that immediately established Porosl’s identity: melodic tremolo lines, drifting post‑metal ambience, and a sense of emotional clarity beneath the distortion. The album balances brightness and sorrow, evoking the feeling of walking through forests at the edge of winter—cold air, pale light, and a quiet sense of renewal.

In 2020, Porosl entered a prolific phase centered around the Winterhome cycle:

Winterhome EP I (2020)

A colder, more atmospheric release, leaning into post‑black metal’s shimmering melancholy.

Apart (2020)

A companion EP exploring emotional distance and introspection through softer, more ambient textures.

Winterhome EP II (2020)

A continuation of the Winterhome concept—frozen landscapes, quiet grief, and slow emotional thaw.

Winterhome (Compilation, 2021)

Collects the Winterhome material into a cohesive narrative, forming a complete seasonal arc.

Across these releases, Porosl’s sound remains consistent: melodic, atmospheric, emotionally restrained, and deeply tied to natural imagery. The project’s strength lies in its clarity—no theatrics, no excess, just honest, carefully crafted atmospheric/post‑black metal.

The Osipov brothers bring significant underground experience to the project. Their work in Oss Nebes, Offalmincer, Bird Cannot Fly, and other Perm‑based acts gives Porosl a sense of continuity within the region’s distinctive atmospheric scene.

Porosl remains active and continues to evolve, though no new releases have been announced since 2021. The project stands as one of the more thoughtful and emotionally resonant voices in modern Perm atmospheric metal.
