Quötta Pas was a melodic black metal band from Albacete, active between 2001 and 2003 before continuing under the new name The Obsidian. Their early work reflected the Spanish underground’s shift toward more atmospheric and melodic forms of black metal at the turn of the 2000s. The project combined raw black metal foundations with melodic guitar lines and introspective themes, focusing on inner turmoil, emotional conflict, and the darker aspects of the human psyche.

Their only release under the original name, the demo A Piece of Darkness (2003), captured the band’s formative sound: cold riffing, melancholic harmonies, and a lo‑fi production typical of early‑2000s Spanish black metal. The demo circulated mainly through local scenes, tape‑trading networks, and small webzines, earning modest underground attention for its sincerity and atmospheric direction. Although limited in distribution, it laid the groundwork for the more refined and ambitious material they would later develop as The Obsidian.

The name change in 2003 marked a shift toward a broader musical identity, allowing the band to evolve stylistically while maintaining the emotional core established during the Quötta Pas era. Their early legacy remains tied to the raw, exploratory spirit of Spain’s melodic black metal underground.
