Radogor is a Russian atmospheric black metal project founded in 2011 by Roman “Radogor” Plotnikov, who initially handled all instruments and vocals. Emerging from the Chelyabinsk scene—known for its raw, introspective strain of Siberian black metal—the project blends cold ambient textures with harsh, minimalist black metal structures. Radogor’s sound is rooted in existential philosophy, nature mysticism, and a bleak, nihilistic worldview, often conveyed through long, meditative passages and stripped‑down production that emphasizes emotional starkness over technical flourish.

The early EPs Суицид (2011) and Microcosmos (2012) established the project’s foundation: lo‑fi atmospheres, hypnotic riff cycles, and a solitary, depressive tone. These releases positioned Radogor within the underground Russian ambient/atmospheric black metal movement, drawing comparisons to regional acts exploring similar themes of isolation and metaphysical inquiry.

With the full‑length Просветление (2012), Radogor expanded its sonic palette, incorporating more dynamic shifts between ambient interludes and harsher black metal sections. The album’s conceptual focus on “enlightenment” is expressed through a balance of introspection and aggression, and it remains one of the project’s most recognized works. Жизнь (2013) followed quickly, offering a harsher, more abrasive interpretation of the band’s core sound, while Viśuddha (2013) introduced a more spiritual and ritualistic dimension, drawing on ascetic and purifying themes suggested by its title.

In 2015, Radogor evolved from a solo project into a fuller lineup with the addition of drummer Ruslan Sadykov and keyboardist Ilya Lopatkin. Their presence brought greater rhythmic depth and atmospheric layering, enriching the project’s later live and studio identity. Despite remaining firmly underground, Radogor has maintained a steady cult following, particularly among listeners drawn to raw, introspective Russian black metal with philosophical undertones.
