Rex Devs was a melodic black metal band from Soria, active throughout the 2000s and known for blending traditional black metal aggression with melodic structures and mythological concepts. Their music often incorporated atmospheric keyboards, layered guitar harmonies, and a dramatic vocal approach, placing them within the more melodic and narrative‑driven branch of Spanish black metal.

Their debut album Zodiaco (2005) introduced the band’s thematic focus on mythological symbolism, using the zodiac as a conceptual framework. The album combined sharp riffing with symphonic touches, giving it a distinctive melodic edge. This was followed by Ser de seres (2007), which expanded their sound with more elaborate arrangements and a stronger emphasis on melody and atmosphere. By the time they released Nosce Te Ipsum (2010), Rex Devs had developed a mature and cohesive style, balancing aggression with introspective and mythological themes. The album is often regarded as their most refined work, featuring improved production and more ambitious songwriting.

The band also appeared on the Hell Awaits CD Sampler Nº 40 in 2005 with the track “Acuario,” which helped them reach a wider underground audience. Their activity after 2010 is unclear, and no official disbandment has been announced, leaving their status unknown.

Rex Devs’ legacy remains tied to their ability to merge melodic black metal with esoteric and mythological concepts, contributing a distinctive voice to the Spanish extreme metal underground.
