Sacrospell is an obscure atmospheric black metal/drone project from the remote industrial city of Norilsk, founded in 2015 and centered entirely around its sole member, Keeper of Secrets. The project embraces a stark, instrumental approach, merging glacial black metal textures with minimalist drone structures to create long, meditative soundscapes. Its music reflects the isolation and harsh climate of Norilsk—cold, repetitive, and enveloped in a sense of vast emptiness.
The early EPs I and II (both 2015) introduced Sacrospell’s core aesthetic: slow‑moving riffs, cavernous reverb, and an emphasis on atmosphere over aggression. These recordings are raw and unadorned, leaning heavily into drone repetition and bleak ambient undertones. Later that same year, the self‑titled full‑length Sacrospell expanded the project’s sonic palette, offering longer compositions and a more immersive, hypnotic flow. The album’s instrumental nature allows the guitars and bass to carry the emotional weight, shifting between distant black metal tremolos and dense, droning layers.
The demo Paedarakhana (2015) continued this trajectory, reinforcing Sacrospell’s commitment to minimalism and atmosphere. Across all releases, the project avoids vocals entirely, relying instead on texture, repetition, and mood to convey its themes. This places Sacrospell within a niche corner of the Russian atmospheric underground—one focused on introspection, desolation, and the expressive power of instrumental black metal.
