Saurom is one of the most influential and enduring bands in Spanish folk and heavy metal. Formed in 1996 under the name Saurom Lamderth, they began as a Tolkien‑inspired project blending power metal, medieval atmospheres, and literary themes. Over the decades, they evolved into a uniquely recognizable force: a band that merges folk instrumentation, theatrical arrangements, and poetic storytelling with a distinctly Andalusian identity.
Their early demos—La cripta del duende (1996), Regreso a las tierras medias (1997), and Legado de juglares (1998)—cemented their reputation as pioneers of Spanish “juglar metal,” a term they embraced to describe their fusion of fantasy, folklore, and heavy metal. With their first full‑length, El guardián de las melodĂas perdidas (2001), they expanded their sound, incorporating richer arrangements and more ambitious narratives.
The 2000s marked a period of transformation. Albums like Sombras del este (2002), JuglarMetal (2006), and Once romances desde Al‑Andalus (2008) showcased a band moving beyond Tolkien into broader literary and historical themes—Spanish legends, medieval poetry, and human stories. Their 2010 album Maryam and the acclaimed Vida (2012) brought emotional depth and mainstream recognition, with “Vida” becoming one of the most beloved songs in Spanish metal.
From 2015 onward, Saurom entered a golden era of creativity. Sueños (2015), La magia de la Luna (2017), and Música (2020) demonstrated their mastery of melody, orchestration, and lyrical storytelling. Their singles often explored literature (El Lazarillo de Tormes, El Principito), folklore (La Llorona), and social themes, while maintaining their festive, emotional, and theatrical identity.
Their 2023 album El pájaro fantasma marked a mature, introspective phase, followed by a major live release, En vivo Arena Ciudad de MĂ©xico (2024), celebrating their massive Latin American following. In 2025, they released El principito, a full‑length adaptation of Saint‑ExupĂ©ry’s classic, along with a series of singles that reaffirmed their lyrical and musical versatility.
Today, Saurom remains one of the most beloved Spanish metal bands worldwide, known for their uplifting spirit, literary devotion, and the unmistakable warmth of their Andalusian folk influences.
