Scharfrichter was a short‑lived Russian atmospheric black metal project active in the early 2010s, built around the solitary vision of Valter, a musician involved in several underground acts such as Ataatmath, Midgaard, Tenebraria and White Ward (early era). The project’s name—German for “executioner”—reflects its stark ideological framing and the cold, punitive tone of its music. Operating entirely in the deep underground, Scharfrichter produced only one known studio release but left a distinct mark within the niche of raw, national‑socialist‑themed atmospheric black metal.
The sole EP, По зимним тропам (2012), presents a harsh, frostbitten sound rooted in minimalist riffing, distant vocals and a wintry, desolate atmosphere. The production is intentionally raw, emphasizing isolation and ideological severity over clarity or technicality. The music leans toward a blend of atmospheric black metal and primitive pagan‑influenced coldness, with repetitive structures designed to evoke bleak landscapes and uncompromising resolve. Though little‑known outside of collectors and genre specialists, the EP has circulated within underground circles as a representative artifact of Russia’s early‑2010s raw black metal scene.
Scharfrichter also appeared on the 2012 tribute compilation Противостояние (A Tribute to Holdaar), contributing the track “Белые Воины,” which further cemented the project’s alignment with the national‑socialist wing of the Russian black metal underground. After this period, no additional material surfaced, and the project quietly dissolved, with Valter moving on to other musical endeavors.
