Sechem is one of Spain’s most distinctive folk‑metal projects, dedicated to blending metal with Middle Eastern scales, Egyptian instrumentation, and mythological concepts. Formed in Madrid in 2010, the band takes its name from the ancient Egyptian word sḫm (“power”, “might”), a fitting reflection of their sound: rhythmic, ritualistic, melodic, and steeped in the atmosphere of the Nile civilizations.
Their early demo Ren (2012) and its expanded re‑imagining [REN]loaded (2014) introduced their core identity: flutes weaving through oriental scales, keyboards evoking ancient temples, and guitars delivering a modern metal backbone. Sechem’s music stands out for its scholarly approach—lyrics referencing Egyptian cosmology, funerary texts, and mythic dualities such as the Ka and Ba.
The EP Renaissance of the Ancient Ka (2016) marked a major step forward, showcasing a more polished production and a deeper integration of Middle Eastern folk elements. Their full‑length Disputes with My Ba (2018) solidified their reputation internationally. The album explores the internal struggle between the Ka (vital essence) and Ba (personality/soul), a central theme in Egyptian spirituality. Musically, it blends harsh and clean vocals, oriental melodies, progressive structures, and cinematic arrangements.
Sechem remains active, now under Atcys Records, and continues to evolve with a lineup that includes members from other prominent Spanish symphonic and folk‑metal acts. Their sound is both academic and emotional—metal as a vessel for resurrecting ancient myth.
