Shrouded Serenity is a post‑black metal project founded in 2016 in Almada, Setúbal, by multi‑instrumentalist Bernardo Rebelo, who composes, performs, and records all material himself. From its inception, the project has explored a shifting emotional and conceptual landscape, beginning with themes of nature and depression and gradually evolving toward surrealism, horror, and philosophical introspection.

Origins and early phase

The debut full‑length Black Nature (2017) established Shrouded Serenity’s early identity: raw, atmospheric post‑black metal shaped by melancholic melodies, distant screams, and a strong connection to natural imagery. This phase continued with the Melancholia EP (2018), which deepened the project’s emotional weight through slower, more introspective compositions.

Expansion of sound and themes

With the single Dreadnoughtus (2019), the project began incorporating more experimental structures, blending post‑metal expansiveness with black‑metal tension. The 2020 single Oracle, featuring Nuno Renato Guerreiro, marked a further step into surreal and dreamlike territory, foreshadowing the conceptual shift that would define the next major release.

The Somnambulist and the surreal era

The second full‑length, The Somnambulist (2020), represents the project’s most ambitious and stylistically diverse work. Its surreal, horror‑infused aesthetic is reflected both in the music and in its striking visual presentation, merging hypnotic repetition, layered guitars, and eerie vocal textures into a dream‑logic narrative.

Recent output

The singles Nimiety and Voice (both 2021) continue this evolution, emphasizing philosophical themes and a more experimental approach to structure and atmosphere. Across all releases, Shrouded Serenity maintains a distinctive blend of heaviness, introspection, and avant‑garde sensibility, supported by Rebelo’s complete creative control.
