Skogsande is an atmospheric black metal/ambient project founded in 2015 in Petrozavodsk, deep within the forested landscapes of Karelia. The name—Swedish for “Forest Spirit”—captures the essence of the project’s sound: cold, mist‑shrouded, and deeply rooted in northern nature. Entirely created by the multi‑instrumentalist Nøkken, Skogsande blends raw atmospheric black metal with meditative ambient passages, crafting music that feels both solitary and elemental.
The debut EP Vintervindarnas tillhĂĄll (2015) introduced Skogsande’s core aesthetic: lo‑fi, wind‑bitten guitar layers, distant melodies, and a strong sense of winter stillness. The project quickly aligned itself with the northern atmospheric tradition, drawing on Scandinavian influences while maintaining a distinctly Karelian mood—melancholic, forest‑bound, and introspective.
In 2016, Skogsande released the split with Darkeater, which helped bring the project to a wider underground audience.
