Sovengar is a Spanish folk/viking metal band formed in 2013, known for their energetic blend of epic melodies, battle‑driven lyrics, and a festive, warrior‑themed aesthetic. Their music draws heavily from Scandinavian mythology and heroic imagery, but with a distinctly Iberian sense of melody and rhythm. Over the years, they’ve become one of Spain’s most recognizable Viking‑themed metal acts, combining harsh vocals, folk‑inspired guitar lines, and anthemic choruses designed for live sing‑alongs.
Their debut EP Vindicta et Gloria (2013) quickly evolved into a full‑length of the same name in 2014, establishing their identity: fast riffs, war‑drum rhythms, and a celebratory approach to Viking lore. The demo Warlords of Metal (2015) and the album Metal March (2016) expanded their sound with more polished production and a stronger emphasis on battle hymns and heroic storytelling.
After a period of relative quiet, Sovengar returned in 2023 with renewed force, releasing the singles Return to Battle and Drakkar’s Party, followed by the full‑length Drinks and Dragons, an album that embraced both their epic side and their humorous, tavern‑metal spirit. In 2024 they continued with Neon Wars, showing a willingness to experiment with new atmospheres while keeping their Viking identity intact.
Sovengar remains active, with a loyal fanbase drawn to their mix of fantasy, battle‑spirit, and high‑energy folk metal.
