Sporulation is a one‑man melodic black metal project from Madrid, active in the late 2010s and early 2020s. The project is driven entirely by Carlos, who handles all instruments, vocals, composition, and production. Sporulation’s sound blends traditional melodic black metal with a modern, experimental edge—sharp tremolo riffs, melancholic leads, and a raw yet atmospheric production style.
The project’s name evokes biological imagery—spores, decay, microscopic life—which fits the project’s thematic leanings toward bleakness, transformation, and existential dissolution. This is reflected in the titles and moods of the releases, which often combine aggression with introspective melancholy.
Sporulation debuted with the single March of the Isopods (2019), a track that immediately showcased the project’s fascination with dark naturalism and melodic black metal aesthetics. In 2020, the EP No Happy Endings expanded the project’s sonic palette with more layered guitars and a stronger emotional arc. The same year, the single Hell on Earth pushed toward a harsher, more apocalyptic tone.
The 2021 EP Lost Soul stands as the project’s most developed work so far, combining melodic black metal with atmospheric passages and a sense of personal desolation. After this release, the project’s activity became unclear, and its current status remains unknown, though no official end has been announced.
