Sykdom formed in Bergen in 2003 as a melodic black metal band focused on Norse mythology, shaping a sound built on cold riffing, straightforward structures, and a raw melodic edge characteristic of the early‑2000s Norwegian underground. Their debut Intet liv (2004) established this approach with a harsh, driving tone and a thematic emphasis on mythic conflict and ancestral imagery. Mjollnir (2005) expanded their melodic sensibility while retaining an unpolished, aggressive core, followed by Under krigen (2006), which pushed the band toward a more forceful and war‑charged expression of their mythological focus.
Subsequent split releases—In Life & in Death / Verden og fanden (2007) and LHW – The Complete Discography (2009)—captured the remainder of their recorded output before the project fell silent. Though their active years were brief, Sykdom left behind a compact discography defined by melodic directness, Norse thematic devotion, and a raw Bergen‑scene character that marked their place in the Norwegian black metal landscape.
Not to be confused with the other Norwegian band Sykdom from Arendal.
Sykdom means sickness/disease in Norwegian.
