Takeskogen is an obscure atmospheric black metal project from Syktyvkar, operating deep within the Komi Republic’s harsh northern landscape. Very little is known about the project’s origins or activity period, but its music reflects the cold, hostile environment from which it emerged. Takeskogen’s sound is raw, minimalistic, and driven by a stark emotional palette—icy tremolo riffs, primitive percussion, and a vocal delivery steeped in contempt and northern severity. The project’s thematic focus on the North and Hate aligns it with the harsher, more misanthropic wing of Russian atmospheric black metal.

The earliest known release, the demo Path of Chaos (2009), introduced Takeskogen’s stripped‑down approach: lo‑fi production, repetitive riff structures, and a bleak, unforgiving atmosphere. The music evokes frozen forests, desolate tundra, and the emotional isolation characteristic of many northern Russian projects. Despite its simplicity, the demo carries a strong sense of place—cold, distant, and unwelcoming.

In 2011, Takeskogen appeared on the split We Hate You, further solidifying its identity as a project rooted in hostility and northern extremity. The material from this period leans into raw aggression while maintaining the atmospheric backbone that defines the project. The split helped circulate Takeskogen’s name among underground listeners who follow the Komi and Ural black metal scenes, though the project has remained extremely low‑profile.

All known music and lyrics are credited to Boris, the sole member behind Takeskogen. His work across the project reflects a solitary creative vision—unpolished, uncompromising, and shaped by the stark landscapes of the Russian North.
