The Bleeding Sun is one of Catalonia’s longest‑running symphonic black‑metal projects, rising in 2000 from the ashes of Ravensouls—a 1996 band whose demo Burning Flesh in Raven’s Possession was recorded but never released. After lineup changes and a shift toward a more ambitious, orchestral black‑metal sound, the band re‑emerged under their new name, embracing a style that fused raw black metal, dark symphonic arrangements, and chaotic, nature‑driven atmospheres.

Their early years were marked by rapid evolution. The 2001 single The Ravens Are Crying Blood Again bridged the transition from Ravensouls to their new identity. With Nessare (2002) and Damnatorium (2003), The Bleeding Sun established themselves as a force in the Spanish symphonic black‑metal underground—dense keyboards, harsh vocals, and a dramatic, occult‑tinged aesthetic. Their 2005 album The Earthquake Machine pushed their sound into more experimental and chaotic territory, blending orchestral layers with dissonant black‑metal structures.

The band contributed to several compilations, including Hell Awaits CD Sampler Nº 6 (2002), which helped spread their name across the Iberian extreme‑metal scene. Over the years, The Bleeding Sun became known for their revolving lineup of musicians from across the Catalan and Spanish underground, while maintaining a core identity rooted in symphonic darkness.
