Themes: Afterlife, visions, memory, duality, mythic worlds
This double‑album was originally conceived as the final chapter of Valkiria’s career, intended to mark the project’s twentieth anniversary. At the time, Valkus believed this work would close the circle—an ultimate farewell to both the epic origins of Valkiria and its later, darker introspective evolution. But inspiration continued to flow, and instead of an ending, Visions of Lost Souls / Kelthanir became a monumental turning point: a summation of everything Valkiria had been, and a gateway to everything it would still become.
The compilation is divided into two distinct yet complementary worlds, each representing one of Valkiria’s “two souls.”
Disc 1 – Visions of Lost Souls embodies the project’s gothic and dark metal identity. It is an intense, emotional exploration of life after death, filled with spectral atmospheres, mournful melodies, and a sense of drifting between worlds. The album moves like a cinematic journey through the afterlife: visions, memories, whispers, and the slow dissolution of earthly identity. Guest contributions enrich the narrative—Norsum on bass and Tim Rowland providing vocals on tracks 3 and 4—while Valkus performs all other instruments and vocals. The tone is melancholic, immersive, and deeply introspective, shaped by themes of transition, loss, and spiritual awakening.
Disc 2 – Kelthanir represents the epic, warrior‑like essence of early Valkiria, reimagined through a modern, atmospheric, and cinematic lens. This disc revisits the mythic universe that has always been part of Valkus’s creative DNA, but with greater refinement and grandeur. The tracks unfold like chapters of an ancient saga, sung in the invented languages and mythologies that have accompanied Valkiria since its earliest days. The music is more expansive, rhythmic, and battle‑scarred, yet still infused with the melancholic beauty that defines the project.
Together, the two discs form a complete portrait of Valkiria:
the epic and the intimate, the mythic and the mortal, the warrior and the lost soul.
It is both a retrospective and a rebirth, a work that was meant to close a story but instead opened a new era.
