Downloaded this CD from Valkiria's website and I am impressed. Atmospheric dark metal is a genre i like a lot . I'm a huge fan of Katatonia, old Anathema and the like. I was browsing through the free metal downloads blog and found this band and I,m completely blown away. Any Fan of the before mentioned bands would do well by downloading this. On to the review the music on this great cd is very similar to Brave Murder Day era Katatonia in that it combines mournful riffs with both deep growling vocals and clean vocals. The guitar is very heavy on the distorted parts and brilliant and clear on the clean parts which is even more impressive when considering this is a self recording. As a lead player Valkiria has a very soulful and melodic approach. The drums are simple and to the point just as they need to be. Bass and Keyboard work is also very fitting for this type of music but I'd like to hear the bass play around with the melody a bit more and not just follow the guitar. The keys add just enough atmosphere without being in the way. The production is very solid in that it's heavy and clear and you can pick out all of the instruments. Which brings me back to the title of this review why isn't this guy signed it is a shame and hopefully it will be rectified soon. As for now do yourself a favor and download this now. I promise you won't regret it.

Sebbene non sia il genere musicale a me piĂą conosciuto o gradito, ho deciso di immergermi in acque goth/dark con l'ultimo full-lenght di ValkiriA intitolato “Of Dreams And Pain”,ultimo di altri tre cd. Pubblicato nel 2007, riesce a fondere perfettamente lo stile di voce che varia dai My Dying Bride ai Moonspell e lo stile musicale di Katatonia e Paradise Lost; devo dire che però alcune tematiche mi ricordano molto i Sentenced (RIP).La melodia rimane comunque la padrona per tutto il cd senza mai abbandonarsi ad aggressivitĂ in cui invece la voce rilascia tutta la sua potenza. Meravigliosi ritmi cadenzati, riff acustici e atmosfere tristi ,e a volte solari, riescono a farmi chiudere gli occhi ed a farmi rilassare nella maniera piĂą assoluta, quasi a trasportarmi davvero in un sogno dove tempo, luogo e perchĂ© non esistono. Tredici tracce che assolutamente non stancano e si lasciano ascoltare una dopo l'altra e per dirlo la sottoscritta che se non è metal estremo non lo ascolta, bhe chi altro può darvi questo parere? Leggendo i titoli delle singole tracce sembra quasi che ci sia una sequenza logica delle canzoni: si insegue un sogno e ne si è intrappolati chiedendosi se sia realtĂ o pura immaginazione ma quando si capisce che è sola illusione, continuiamo comunque a credere che il sogno che si sta vivendo possa portare allegria e felicitĂ in quell'angolo di vita intriso di solo dolore umano e che possa curare quello che ci aspetta quando riapriremo gli occhi sul mondo esterno. Non essendo particolarmente amante della scena goth, questo album è riuscito a trasmettermi qualcosa. Non mi limito a consigliarlo solo a chi è fan dei gruppi menzionati in precedenza, ma anche a coloro che vogliono distaccarsi dalla solita vita quotidiana per abbandonarsi in un sogno.

Il cd scorre nel mio player e rimango smepre più incantato da questi Valkiria ... un sound alquanto strano se pensiamo che ben due componenti vengono dagli "Obscure Devotion" band che riporta alla luce le vecchie gliorie della blakc metal come gli Immortal! Valkiria è nato come un progetto one-man-band da parte dello stesso Valkiria nel 1996, poco dopo abbandonerà la band per decicarsi solo ed esclusivamente al suo progetto chiamato Valkiria . Nel '97 finalemnte arriva il primo lavoro chiamato "The narrow bed", Valkiria suona tutti gli srumenti ad eccezione dellabatteria elettronica che viene utilizzata da Walter Basile (Black sunrise, Larsen) mentre che il backing vocals è di Cabal dark moon (Obscure Devotion). Questo demo era molto incentrato sulla vecchia black metal degli Emperor ed Immortal, ha avuto anche parecchie buone recensionni..ma nulla di più e Valkiaria smese di suonare black metal e creò una band dark gothic col nome di "41Chains" da cui poi venner 3 demo tapes! Nel 2001 nasce il primo sito dei Valkiria . Nel 2002 Valkia inizia a scrivere "Mharvelle" un racconto fantastico con un gioco su scacchiera, poi il suo racconto sarà l'ispirazione giusta per creare "Thur kuarankharn sthorn" alla fine del 2004 dove Valkiria narrerà Mharvelle con la voce di Dekalur. Il lavoro fu valutato ottimamente sia dai media italiani che stranieri. Nell'aprile del 2005 per le registrazioni di "Epika" si aggiunge alla band anche Quirino (sinth). In "Epika" viene narrata l'unione degli uomini di Mahrvelle, la creazione di un nuovo regno ed il rifiuto di qualsiasi religione. Nel settembre del 2005 Valkiria inizia una collaborazione con un'altro progett musicale chiamato Ecnephias. Nel 2007 si aggiunge alla band Omar Stevan (batteria) ed inizia il lavoro per "Su questa terra" Ora è l'ora di recensire "Of Dreams and Pain"... beh l'impresa è ben difficile dato che è una sorta di viaggio il loro sound è un misto tra più generi, un'ottimo ed intelligente utilizzo voce growl che non oscura mai la sua delicata musica, un'armonia molto difficile da creare e che in pochi riescono a trovare, invece i Valkiria ci sono arrivati!Sound gothic con influenze epic, molto strumentale e delicato...che dirvi di più...un'ottimo lavoro!
