Vonthor

Origin: Spain
Formed: Unknown
Location: Basque Country
Genre: Pagan Black Metal
Status: Split‑up
Label: Independent

Vonthor was an obscure pagan black‑metal project from the Basque Country, active in the early 2000s and closely connected to the thrash band Legen Beltza. Their music embraced a primitive, forest‑driven pagan black‑metal aesthetic—raw guitars, lo‑fi production, and a strong emphasis on Basque atmosphere and woodland mysticism.

Their only known release is the demo Basoaren Semea 1. Atala (2004), whose title translates roughly to “Son of the Forest, Part I”—a fitting name for a project rooted in pagan nature themes and Basque identity. The demo is extremely rare, circulating mostly among collectors of Iberian underground black metal.

After this release, Vonthor disappeared from activity, with no further recordings or official statements.
